Quick Tutorial

About Categories

When you first register, you will not have any categories. Add one by typing a name, for example "Everyday Expenses", and clicking Add Category.

You will now see the category name under Total Money and also in its own bar. We will get to Total Money later. Now, click on the name of the category to expand it.

This is the "balance sheet" for your new category. To add money, choose Credit (+), enter an amount, the date, and a description, and click Add Transaction.

Now, as you spend money in the category of "Everyday Expenses", add each transaction into this register as a Debit (-). Your balance will be instantly updated and you will be able to see how much you have left of the money you initially set aside. To add more money, simply add another Credit (+).

To delete a category or transaction, click the icon to the right of it.

About Totals

The totals box allows you to set the total amount of money you have in your pool (for example, checking account). It then substracts the balance of each category and gives you an amount called Leftover Money. This amount is how much money is left in the pool after setting aside money for each category.

For example:

In this picture, there are two categories, "Beer Money" and "Everyday Expenses". The total amount of money in the account is $350, and there is $50 set aside for beer and $200 set aside for everyday expenses. Therefore, there is $100 that is unallocated to any category.

To change the total amount of money, click the amount, type in your new amount, then press Enter or click away from the box. Leftover Money will be calculated automatically.

When you add or remove a transaction, the tool adds or removes that amount from your Total Money. This way, you don't have to reset your Total Money every time you add a transaction, unless there are transactions in your account which you do not enter into any category.

That should be enough to get you started. Log in then visit Your Budget to begin.
